PANJIM: In what could be a major relief to mining dependents, transportation or ore is set to begin with Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) granting its nod to five companies.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that GSPCB has granted approval to some companies for transportation. “After GSPCB nod, I have held a meeting with Mines Department officials and permission is set to be granted by tomorrow afternoon,” he said.
Asked for the delay in permissions, he said, there were some technical issues behind the delay. “The payment had to be done online and some issues here and there which have been sorted now,” the CM said.
A GSPCB official told Herald that five companies – Minscape Minerals, Minescape Qadar, Goldwin, Chowgules and Vedanta – have paid the monitoring fees. Agarwal and VM Salgaocar have also applied for permission, the official said.
The Supreme Court last month gave a major relief to Goa after it allowed transportation of royalty paid ore. The Chief Minister has said that the State will approach the SC for permission to transport the remaining extracted ore also for which royalty has not been paid.
