5 held for illegal excavation at Verna

VASCO: Verna police on Friday arrested drivers of four trucks and one earth moving vehicle and seized the five vehicles for allegedly transporting rubble from the Verna Comunidade land at Bamborda-Porie bhat Verna.

Speaking to Herald, Verna Comunidade attorney Celistino Noronha informed that he had filed a complaint against a contractor on February 25, accusing him of illegally lifting rubble from the comunidade land at Verna for commercial purposes. Acting on the complaint, Verna police seized a truckload of rubble.
“On Friday, we received a tip-off that some persons were involved in hill-cutting and excavation of rubble on comunidade land in Verna. The comunidade treasurer and I rushed to the site and saw the four trucks and a JCB, which were involved in illegally taking rubble from the comunidade land,” Noronha said.
“We immediately informed Verna police, who inspected the site and seized the four trucks and the JCB.”
When contacted, Verna police said they have seized four trucks and a JCB involved in illegally transporting rubble from Verna Comunidade land. They have also arrested the truck and JCB drivers for trespassing and for illegally excavating rubble from the comunidade land. PSI Anand Shirodkar is investigating.
