According to Curchorem police, Cudegal-Dabal residents, along with ex-employees of the company and their families, stopped the transportation of e-auctioned ore from the mines to demand the re-instatement of workers whose services were terminated by the company.
Earlier, Dharbandora Dy Collector Sagun Velip, mamlatdar Satish Prabhu, PI Ravindra Dessai and PI Pravin Gauns visited the site and tried to convince the group to withdraw their agitation. The group refused to comply and unknown persons from the mob pelted stones and damaged the windscreen of five trucks parked at the site.
The 56 persons were arrested under Sections 143, 147 and 148 r/w 149, 341, 323 and 336 of IPC. All were released in the evening after furnishing a personal bond with one surety.
It was learnt that transportation resumed in the evening.
