MARGAO: Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar has informed that over 60 percent of the Tribal Sub Plan funds were used for the welfare of Goan tribes in the last financial year. He has also claimed to have filled over 850 posts reserved for tribals in government departments.
Tawadkar was speaking at an interaction between tribal students and the Directorate of Tribal Welfare (DTW) on Wednesday.
The DTW and the Schedule Tribes Commission, in a joint venture with Akash Educational Services, will hold a 45-days training programme for 100 tribal students (40 medical and 60 engineering students) of Goa for competitive entrance exams.
The students, who were selected from 247 students, will be trained in Panjim and Margao from March 25.
“According to the preliminary exam results, over 40 percent will pass with good marks.” said Tawadkar.
While clarifying the reasons for not filling up posts reserved for tribals, he said, “Several persons from the general class have filled the same. We will have to wait for them to retire and then fill up those posts. With my efforts, over 850 vacancies for STs have been filled at the Sports Department.”
