VASCO: The contract workers employed by the contractors associated with the PWD Works Division XXI and Sub Division II (Sewage Department) at Baina Vasco have threatened to go on strike in protest against the non-payment of salaries.
The workers claimed that the PWD has still not paid their salaries for the last seven months, leading to a starvation-like crisis for them and their families.
A contract worker Chandrahas Pandhare, who is a supervisor with Vasco PWD sewage department office said, “We all 21 workers have been working with the department for many years but since the last seven months we have not been paid our salaries. We made representations before Assistant as well as Executive Engineer and they assured us that our salaries will be released within eight days but it is now over 15 days they are yet to release our salaries”.
“How long can we survive without salary? If they cannot pay us then they should at least regularise our services. From ministers to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had assured us in the past that by December last year he would resolve our issues by regularising our services but nothing happened. Now we are left without salaries
