VASCO: Officials from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) inspected seven Self-Help Groups (SHGs) of Vasco involved in supplying mid-day meals to schools in Vasco and issued notices to all seven, directing them to keep their surroundings clean and to dig pits to dispose of their waste.
When contacted, FDA director Saleem Velji stated that inspection was part of a ‘routine check’, which began at 6 am on Tuesday morning and concluded at around 11 am.
“In all, we visited nine SHGs and while two were found closed, the remaining seven SHGs were in the process of preparing the mid-day meals,” said Velji. “Although the cooking area was found clean and hygienic, the SHGs did not have pits to dispose of the waste. The surroundings were unhygienic and in this regard, we have served notices to the seven SHGs directing them to keep their surroundings clean and to dig pits to dispose of their waste,” he added.
Velji informed that similar inspections would continue in other areas as well.
