PANJIM: Seventy security agencies, operating in various parts of the State without government licences, have now applied for registration as the deadline to register them with Goa government nears expiry.
The Home Department has received applications seeking licence from 70 out of 300-odd non-registered security agencies. A decision whether or not to consider these applications will be taken after the Lusofonia Games conclude on January 29.
According to an extra ordinary gazette notification issued December-end, the security agencies were directed to register with government since most of them do not fulfil the requirements to obtain licence or face stoppage of their operations.
The registration comes with a rider that security agencies must have trained personnel, a training centre and also that antecedents of the owner should be disclosed to the government.
“Only those security agencies fulfilling requirements listed out in the notification will be issued licences by government. Moreover it is mandatory for all security agencies to obtain a licence from the state government,” Additional Home Secretary Sanjiv Gadkar said.
According to government statistics, about 300 security agencies exist in the State but so far only two security agencies, G4 Secure Solutions (India) and Modern VRS Security, both operating from Porvorim, have obtained licences.
