VASCO: Following complaint from concerned citizens, the Mormugao Municipal Council on Tuesday confiscated eight handcarts that had encroached on the beautified portion of Baina beach.
According to MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik, soon after receiving complaint about encroachment by illegal handcarts on the newly developed walking track constructed as part of Baina beach beautification project, she formed a team of municipal inspectors and with the help of Vasco police, and seized all such illegal carts, on Tuesday.
“Our drive against illegal handcarts has been going on since last one month, however, I was shocked to hear that illegal handcarts have started mushrooming on the Baina beach. What was more surprising is that these illegal handcarts are placed right on the walking track with vendors were selling eatable items. As we had not given any permission for such operations, we removed eight such handcarts and we will continue to take similar action even in future as Baina beach has been developed for public use and not for such illegal operations,” Naik told Herald.
