PANJIM: This year, 92.75 per cent students cleared the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE). The pass percentage was up by only 0.6 per cent, compared to 2020, when the last public exam was conducted. This shows, the special evaluation scheme, had no major impact on the performance.
The overall pass percentage of Class X students have remained almost intact. In 2020, 92.69 per cent students had cleared Board exams, while in 2019, it was 92.47 per cent.

As many as 18,869 students of the total 20,345 registered for Class X cleared both the terms held in December 2021 and April 2022. Almost 1,476 students were categorized under needs improvement category of which the results of 99 students were placed under ‘Reserved Category’ due to non- compliance of internal assessment marks or practical marks or change in subjects.
The first terminal examination was held from December 8, 2021 to January 11, 2022 with multiple-choice questions for 50 per cent of the portion, while the second term with subjective questions was from April 5 onwards. For the first time, Class X and Class XII board examinations were held simultaneously.
“The final result is prepared which includes performance of first term exam – 50 per cent portion, second term exam with balance 50 per cent portion and performance of internal assessment (20%),” Goa Board chairman Bhagirath Shetye said.
As an annual trend, the results saw girls outshining boys with an overall passing percentage of 93.91 per cent with 9,378 clearing the term out of 9,986.
On the other hand, 9,491 boys cleared the assessment at a passing percentage of 91.62 per cent. In all 10,359 boys had registered. As many as 116 schools got 100 per cent result, of which 35 were government schools.
For the year 2021, a record number of 99.72 per cent students were promoted, based on internal assessment criterion following cancellation of the board examination in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
What is interesting is that Astronomy and Fine Art, subjects introduced for the first time, saw 100 per cent result. Also, over 97 per cent students, of the total 11,010, cleared the mathematics paper I, while 91.30 per cent cleared mathematics paper II, for which 8,846 students had appeared.
Shetye said that the supplementary examination will be conducted by the Board tentatively in the first week of July, for those students who are placed in the needs improvement category or who had withdrawn their application forms or those who want improvement in their marks.
Over 50 per cent students scored between 60 and 80 per cent marks, while 23.65 per cent students obtained 46-59 per cent marks and another 2.38 per cent scored between 33-45. Over 16 per cent students scored above 80 per cent.
As many as 916 students had availed sports merit marks, however, only 17 students were passed using these marks.
Shetye said that no malpractices were reported during the Class X board examination. For Class XII public exam, four cases had been reported.
Dharbandora taluka reported the highest pass percentage of 96.44 per cent, with three schools from the taluka securing cent per cent results. This was followed by Pernem that saw 95.89 per cent students clearing the examination, followed by Sattari, Ponda, Salcete and Bicholim, all who reported over 94 per cent passing.
35 govt schools, two special schools score 100% result
Almost 35 government schools were among the 116 schools that secured 100 per cent result in the Class X Board examination, this year. A similar number of government-run schools had got a cent per cent result during the last board exam held in 2020.
However, the trend shows an overall improvement. In 2018, 21 government schools had scored 100 per cent result, the number which went up to 31 in 2019.
Atleast one government school from eleven talukas, except Mormugao, has scored 100 per cent result. Bicholim has the maximum of nine schools, followed by Sattari with eight, Pernem five and Tiswadi four.
Canacona has three government schools achieving cent per cent pass percentage, while two each are in Ponda and Sanguem while one each in Bardez, Dharbandora, Quepem and Salcete. Besides this, 74 aided schools and 7 unaided schools are also in the list.
The talukas of Pernem and Bicholim topped the list with 16 schools scoring 100 per cent result, followed by Salcete with 15 schools and Ponda with 14. Tiswadi’s 13 schools and 10 from Sattari are in the list.
Nine schools from Bardez, eight from Canacona, five each from Mormugao and Sanguem, four from Quepem and three from Dharbandora have scored 100 per cent result.
Sanjay School for Special Education and Lokvishwas Prathishthan’s Virnai Isani High School for hearing impaired children, are also in the list.
