MARGAO: Keeping up with the spirit of community service, Rachol seminarians along with priests and locals lent a helping hand to the agricultural operations in their backyard. For the seminarians it was a holiday well spent sowing paddy in the fertile fields.
It’s not uncommon to find the seminarians cultivating the fields at this time of the year, but seminarian Reagan Fernandes said that apart from the agricultural activity, what was significant was the atmosphere of community prevailing there.
“We all worked united as a community in the fields. From the soil, we can reap rich benefits. We have to save agriculture in the State,” he added.
It has become a custom for the Rachol seminarians and the priests to grow vegetables and fruit and flower in the seminary gardens. “The produce is mostly used for their daily consumption, but surplus production finds its way in the market,” sources said.
