A long laundry list for urgent action

Private shack owners under the aegis of the Private Property Shack and Huts Owners’ Association have put forward to the government and local representatives the things that are upsetting them. They are the ones who have been running shacks on their own properties for years and now face government actions, detrimental to their businesses, without consulting them.

u Policy decisions should be taken only after the active participation of the members of the Association.
u NOC for shacks should be issued for period of 3 to 5 years and one-time fees be collected. Renewals can be yearly.
u Issue regarding procuring NOCs from the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) should be delinked from beach shacks.
u All permissions and NOCs to be issued by September 1. The shack rationale for this is that there is enough time to obtain NOCs from other departments.
u A single window clearance system for all NOCs and all NOCs should be granted as per the law within 7 days from receipt of application.
u CRZ rules to be amended to allow for temporary erection of structures.
u At least 10 deck chairs and 5 tables should be allowed.
u Beach shacks should not be allowed to be erected in front of private shacks.
u There should be no size restriction for shacks and huts given that they are built on private land.
u Provision to be made to allow erection of temporary shed to store dismantled material used for erection of shacks in own property.
