PONDA: The Aadhaar Card rectification programme is witnessing chaotic scenes in Ponda panchayats as the Aadhaar teams spend only two days in each panchayat to rectify the cards.
According to local officials, there are over a thousand cardholders in each panchayat wanting to rectify their cards, the teams are able to rectify only 130 cards per day. This is inevitability leading to chaotic scenes in the panchayats.
The Aadhaar card rectification process commenced on June 18 in Ponda taluka; in Veling Priol Cuncoliem Panchayat, the cards were rectified on Monday and Tuesday, where over a thousand people were queuing up in long lines since early morning to rectify their cards. However, officials said that only around 260 Aadhaar cards were rectified in two days. Hundreds of people complained that after waiting in queue they had to return home without rectifying their cards.
It is learnt that there are several mistakes in Aadhaar cards and some cards have only year of birth and not the day and month of birth which they need to rectify along with mistakes in address if any.
Priol Sarpanch Mangaldas Gaude said that two days are not sufficient for Aadhaar Card rectification.
“Per day only 130 Aadhaar cards can be rectified with given staff. There were two operators with two kits and they can rectify only 130 cards per day and in two days only around 260 Adhar cards were rectified. But over a thousand people had turned up at the panchayat to rectify their cards. In such situation at least ten days are needed for rectification of mistakes in Aadhaar cards of all villagers,” he said adding, “More than 2000 villagers are still waiting for rectification of Aadhaar card.
He demanded that the government should again organise such camps in panchayats.
