Leaders claiming to be party’s representatives holding meetings

VASCO: Barely a day ahead of the inauguration of its Mormugao office on Friday, the Aam Aadmi Party (Goa) has already found itself in an unusual situation as some self-styled leaders claiming to be AAP representatives have been holding meetings to make many tall promises to the people.
Incidentally, some people with vested interests conducted closed-door meetings in a hotel in Vasco and assured about 20 vendors of better facilities and a better fish market, while another “AAP leader” even opened an office in the name of AAP and began a sponsorship drive to buy a computer and stationery.
“During the meeting, the vendors were also promised overall development of Vasco city if AAP was elected to power in the next assembly election. These few people are going around the market making tall promises,” said the source.
Some senior citizens told Herald that they were shocked to find some people claiming to be AAP leaders from Vasco.
“These people were rejected by the citizens of Vasco and since no other party is entertaining them knowing their background, these people are now trying to fool the newly formed AAP and are trying to kill the goose before it lays the eggs,” said a senior citizen.
When contacted, Valmiki Naik of AAP clarified they have neither opened any party office nor had appointed any one as the AAP leader in Vasco.
“These people might have registered themselves as AAP members, but AAP has not selected or appointed anyone as party leader nor has permitted anyone to hold closed-door meetings. We have not allowed anyone to open an office in Vasco,” said Naik.
“We don’t believe in closed-door meetings as we are aam admi and all our meetings are an open secret,” he said. Incidentally, the AAP will inaugurate its Mormugao office on Friday at 5.30 pm.
