PORVORIM: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa unit has objected to the construction of a storm drain over a newly-laid water pipeline at Carrem-Socorro. AAP member Wilber Ticlo stated that new pipeline had been laid even before the work of the proposed overhead water tank at Carrem-Socorro had started. He brought the issue to the notice of Mapusa junior engineer Bhagat, who replied that the work was being done as per the orders of his superiors.
Ticlo informed that he had subsequently written a letter to the Mapusa Public Works Department (Roads) executive engineer, informing that the work was violating PWD construction rules, and hence, should be stopped forthwith. “Without checking if the pipeline is leaking or defective, the PWD cannot construct a storm drain over it. This is being done in unplanned and haphazard manner, putting the tax payers’ money in the drains,” said Ticlo.
He further stated that the PWD had started the work during the monsoons, creating an inconvenience for motorists and residents of Carrem -Socorro. He also alleged that the PWD was not supervising the work.
