PANJIM: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided to abstain from the by-elections in the State as it claims that the by-elections are only a way for the present government to survive.
Speaking to Herald, AAP Goa Convenor Elvis Gomes said, “I feel there is no limit because there would be more by-elections. This year there is a culture of by-elections that has set in just for the survival of the government.”
He said that AAP will not support any party in the by-elections and will abstain from contesting.
Stating that Congress, despite being the single largest party did not form the government after the elections, he said, “Now they are getting exploited and are weakened and it is for them to fight their own battle. We don’t want to dissipate our energies into these by-elections as it does not serve any purpose as far as we are concerned.”
He said that AAP has asked its volunteers to
reorganise and rebuild the party at the grassroots so as to be battle ready for the next big challenge.
However, AAP hopes that the people of Panjim and Valpoi will “reject the politics of opportunism, deceit and treachery played out by the current dispensation, which is foisting an unnecessary election at great expense to the public exchequer, only to compel a desired outcome”.
