PANJIM: Welcoming the withdrawal of controversial circular by government, AAP general secretary Pradeep Padgaonkar said that the reasons adduced by the minister indicated that the government was convinced that the circular would not stand the test of judicial scrutiny and that the BJP risked alienating even their own panchayats
However, Padgaonkar criticised the manner in which the minister made use of intemperate language against panchayats by terming the whole issue as ‘us against them’. “The minister’s mindset is exposed. He uses language of arrogance as if panchayats are enemies of the government,” Padgaonkar said.
He said the minister indicated that the circular has been withdrawn ‘for the time being’ which is a sign that it could be brought back.
“He also says that the government will wield the stick against errant panchayats. We want to tell him that he is not the school teacher to think that elected panchas are his school boys to wield a stick. He also says that he has given a second chance to panchayats to fall in line on waste management,” he said.
