ACB books 2 govt officers,Gujarat firm

PANJIM: The Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) sleuths on Friday registered a case against two government officers and a Gujarat company for cheating the State exchequer of several crores of rupees.

PANJIM: The Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) sleuths on Friday registered a case against two government officers and a Gujarat company for cheating the State exchequer of several crores of rupees.
The case was registered taking cognisance of a complaint filed by Chief Engineer (WR) and ex-officio Additional Secretary S T Nadkarni, in which he alleged that Anant Bhagwat, the then Executive Engineer and presently surveyor of works in WRD and Tulsidas Narvekar, former divisional accountant and presently working in Directorate of Accounts, and Ketan Construction Pvt Ltd from Gujarat hatched a criminal conspiracy to cheat the government since January 2007.
As per the complaint, Bhagwat illegally released Bank Guarantees (BGs) in January 2007 amounting to Rs 2.57 crore of the tendered value which resulted in

the non adjustment of mobilization/machinery advance to the extent of Rs 3.84 crore in the allotment of construction work of RCC to Ketan Construction. The stipulate date of completion of work was April 12, 2008 but it was extended to May 31, 2009, but the BGs were released in January 2007 prior to completion of the work.
