Two others exchange blows outside South Goa Sessions Court room

MARGAO: High drama unfolded in the South Goa Sessions Court on Monday morning after an accused in the gruesome Bellary murder case made an abortive bid to commit suicide in the open court room by consuming tablets and medicines.
That’s not all. Two other accused in the case were also involved in fisticuffs outside the court room moments after Judge P V Sawaikar adjourned the matter to March 13.
The incident occurred on Monday noon when accused Vivek Dhamkale consumed tablets and medicines when examination of then Maina Curtorim PSI Suraj Samant had just ended. His drastic step  came moments after he was in the accused box to draw attention of the judge the alleged assault and harassment meted out to him by co-accused Jayesh Naik.
Even before the judge could pass any order on his plea for separate arrangement in the jail, Vivek removed the medicines from his pocket and consumed it in the court room, leaving the judge to issue directions to the police to rush the accused to the Hospicio for treatment.
Vivek, who is undergoing treatment, told Herald late Monday evening from the Hospicio bed that he suspected the hand of Jayesh behind the assault on him inside the jail last week. “In the past, Jayesh had taken my chargesheet and threatened me not to disclose anything to the court. Today, I drew attention of the judge to my ordeal inside the jail. But, I took the drastic step since I was apprehensive of another assault on me when I return back to the jail”, Vivek said.
Sources said that there as an altercation between Jayesh and the brother of Vivek outside the court room and in the melee two of the accused traded blows before they were separated by someone in the crowd.
