Accused seeking Church intervention

MARGAO: The other accused have urged former Assolna parish priest Fr Lucio Dias to speak to the Bishop and get the Church’s backing in the court case. Fr Dias and Fr Romanov Gonsalves, the former Velim parish priest, are both facing serious charges as well.

The accused along with Velim MLA Benjamin Silva suggested that a memorandum be submitted to the church seeking their guidance and intervention in the matter. Fr Dias assured the locals that he would do what was required as he was an accused himself.
The accused are waiting for Fr Gonsalves to arrive in Goa, following which they will write to the Church. The Velim parish priest had already organized a candlelight march and a signature campaign that saw parishes across Velim constituency appeal to the government to drop the case.
