PANJIM: Pointing to the fact that several government servants were availing the benefit of ration cards despite being above poverty line (APL), the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has warned to take action against illegal ration card holders, if they fail to surrender it within the next two months.
In a bid to refurbish the ration cards, the department has appealed to ration card holders to ensure that names of dead persons were deleted within 60 days.
“The department has noted that many ineligible beneficiaries, including government servants were holding priority household (PHH), food security cards instead of having APL cards. Some families with income over Rs 5 lakh have APL ration card although they are not eligible for ration card,” the department has said in a press note issued on Tuesday.
As such, the department has appealed to the ration card holders to get their ration cards corrected, changed or surrendered and ensure that the names of dead persons were deleted by approaching to the concerned taluka Inspector within 60 days.
The deptartment had noted that names of dead persons appeared in ration card and families were drawing monthly ration quota against their name.
