MARGAO: All was quite at the Betalbatim residence of beleaguered Rural Development Minister Mickky Pacheco post the Supreme Court’s order dismissing his appeal petition on Monday, but hectic consultations are on with legal experts in Delhi with Mickky landing in the national capital this evening.
Mickky’s wife and Goa Vikas Party President, Viola was holed up inside the house as supporters made their presence felt to verify news of the Supreme Court’s order dismissing his appeal in the junior engineer assault case. Sources in the know said that GVP’s Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva also visited Mickky’s house while heading home from the airport, but was told by the minister’s staff that Mickky was not at home.
Viola could not shed much light on the Supreme Court order, other than saying that she would come to know of the developments later in the evening as Mickky has rushed to Delhi around noon. “We have no further information on the matter. We will come to know only after Mickky lands in Delhi and discuss the matter with his legal counsel”, Viola remarked.
While there was not much movement around Mickky’s residence, the scene has shifted to Delhi as Mickky’s legal counsel will take a call how to go about the situation. Mickky’s close confidante and GVP General Secretary Lyndon Monteiro along with a battery of lawyers from Goa had been camping in Delhi since Sunday, sources said.
When Herald contacted Lyndon to unveil the future course of action in the wake of the Supreme Court order, he merely said that Mickky along with the lawyers from Goa will discuss the matter with the legal experts from Delhi. Asked whether they contemplate filing a review petition in the Supreme Court against the order pronounced by the two-judge bench, Lyndon said all such questions will be discussed later in the evening when Mickky and his lawyers hold consultations with the Delhi-based legal experts.
