PANJIM: Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar Monday has said, that the government will chalk out an action plan to streamline tourist taxi operations in the State commencing from Dabolim next month when the new airport terminal is made fully operational.
Parulekar said that the introduction of metres would also go a long way in weeding out the problem of alleged overcharging by tourist taxi operators.
As far as complaints from tourist taxi operators against tour operators engaging foreign nationals particularly Russians, Parulekar said, “We have given strict instructions to the police to book all those persons engaging in employment while in Goa on tourist visas.”
He also said that it was very difficult to put restrictions on the number of licenses and permits granted to tourist taxi operations in Goa as that role was vested with the RTO.
Strike today: North Goa tourist taxi operators have decided to stop plying taxis today (Tuesday) in North Goa ( from Dona Paula to Tiracol) in protest against the growing business operations and infringement on the business of local taxi operators by tour operators, and employment of Russians.Taxi operators president Vasu Arlekar said, “We are likely to meet Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar Tuesday afternoon and expect some positive response from the government.”
