MARGAO: Betalbatim Sarpanch and panch members have slammed women’s activist Tara Kerkar for defending the action of Colva PSI, Manguesh Volvoikar and not the victim girl attacked by the migrant construction labourer.
Expressing surprise over Tara’s outburst against MLA, Mickky Pacheco, Sarpanch, Maria Esperance Fernandes and five panch members said some panch members present at the scene of assault did not approve the PSI’s action.
“Instead of pacifying the agitated crowd, the PSI was seen filming the scene on his mobile, at which juncture, the local MLA on his arrival asked him to stop it and pacify the crowd who were beating the accused”, they said in a signed note.
“Tara, staying at Vasco, does not know what actually happened at the scene of the assault. She should have defended the girl who was critically assaulted by the accused. It was due to the timely intervention of the local MLA, that the crowd calmed down or else they were so agitated that they would have even attacked the police”, they said.
Stating that Tara is the same person, who was against Parrikar for clearing Baina Beach, they said she should have condemned the assault and defended the injured girl, instead of the PSI.
