Activists, citizens submit objections to amended TCP Act

The activists urged the public to submit their objections to the TCP before the deadline on September 27.

MARGAO: A group of concerned citizens, activists, the Sarpanch of the Loutolim VP and a Betalbatim panch member, jointly submitted their objections to the proposed amendments to the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act, to the Chief Town Planner on Monday.

Abhijit Prabhudesai from the NGO Rainbow Warriors said they had a lengthy discussion with the TCP officials to convey why they were opposing the amendments, which have received backlash from across the State.

“It is sad to note that the TCP officials are themselves not in favour of these amendments, which have been forcibly introduced by TCP Minister Viswajit Rane. The people of Goa will not keep quiet,” said Prabhudesai. “These amendments only favour rich builders and hoteliers. The common man of Goa will suffer as tomorrow there will be deprived of land, which will go for the type of projects the amendments seek to allow in Goa – film city, golf courses etc,” he added.  The activists urged the public to submit their objections to the TCP before the deadline on September 27.
