MAPUSA: Members of Candolim Against PDA and Goenkar Against PDA led by social activist Roshan Mathias on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Candolim Sarpanch Salvador Blaise Fernandes demanding de-notification of the village from Planning and Development Authority.
The memorandum contains signatures of a large number of Candolim villagers and lists out the reasons why the villagers are against the PDA and ODP.
The memorandum also demands support of the panchas and the panchayat and calls upon the panchayat to take necessary steps to withdraw their support to NGPDA. The memorandum further calls upon the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department to consider the de-notification of Candolim from PDA at its board meeting.
The memo decried the panchayat that instead of discussing and acting on the demands made in a memo submitted previously, it acted as a postman by forwarding the memo to NGPDA.
“PDA is meant for cities and not for villages. TCP Act itself is outdated due to which we are demanding up gradation or scrapping of the TCP Act. It is the duty of the board to discuss demands of the people in the gram sabha. Now we have given a time period of 10 days to schedule next meeting which will be attended by the member secretary of NGPDA, Panchayat, Goenkar against PDA and others concerned authorities. The sarpanch has assured us that the points stated in the memo will be discussed in the fortnight meeting of the panchayat members,” Mathias said.
