PANJIM: Demanding that a ‘full-time’ Chief Minister be appointed for the coastal state in the absence of Manohar Parrikar, who is undergoing treatment in the US, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), on Sunday, taunted BJP-led government to adopt any MLA from Congress for Chief Minister’s post.
The Congress legislators and office-bearers staged a demonstration at the memorial of Goa’s first chief minister, late Dayanand Bandodkar, in Miramar in support of their demand.
“If BJP does not have the ‘qualified MLA’ for the post, they should adopt any MLA from the Congress for Chief Minister’s post. All the 16 MLAs of Congress are fit to be the Chief Minister,” said Leader of Opposition and Congress MLA Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavalekar.
GPCC President Girsh Chodankar said, “We have petitioned everyone including Governor seeking to have a full time chief minister in absence of Parrikar but nothing seems to be working. So we have now finally come to the late former chief minister’s memorial seeking his ‘divine’ intervention.”
He said all the party office bearers and MLAs have sought the intervention of Bandodkar to prevail upon the ruling dispensation to appoint a chief minister.
“The government has MGP as a part of it, which was formed by Bandodkar. But that party too does not have the guts to ask for the chief minister,” he said.
Speaking on the Amit Shah’s Goa visit, Chodankar said that the BJP president should look around and witness the misgovernance in the State.
Meanwhile, the Congress party also informed that it will take the agitation, demanding the filling of chief ministerial post to the state level.
“In absence of the chief minister during last three months, the administration has collapsed. There are no cabinet meetings happening, no governance in place and the people are frustrated over the affairs of the government,” the Congress leaders said.
