After criticism, CM meets Union Min on Mhadei

PANJIM: After setback in the Supreme Court on the Mhadei issue, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Friday met Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Delhi and urged him not to allow water diversion in Mhadei without informing the State.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP, Vinay Tendulkar.

As per the CMO press release, “the CM urged the minister not to entertain any proposal of Karnataka on Mhadei without keeping the State of Goa informed.”

Earlier, Sawant called on Hardeep Singh Puri, MoS Civil Aviation, Housing & Urban Affairs (I/C).

CMO said that Sawant updated the Minister on the Mopa airport matter.

“Also appraised him about the problems faced by construction industry at sites surrounding Goa airport,” the CMO said.

Despite facing criticism from the Opposition, Chief Minister Sawant has maintained that the State will win the matter in the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court allowed the notification of the Mhadei Water dispute Tribunal award. The Apex court also dismissed the State’s application for a stay on the construction works.
