PANJIM: After leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Goa Forward Party (GFP) President and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has pulled out from the proposed tour of Ministers and MLAs to Gujarat to learn about areas of ‘Good Governance’.
According to a circular issued by the Goa Legislature Department, the tour of nine MLAs, led by Sports Minister Govind Gaude, is scheduled to Gujarat from February 19-21, for exposure visit and to learn the best practices adopted by their government in the area of ‘Good Governance’.

Another tour of 11 MLAs including Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane and Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldesai, is scheduled from February 22 to 24, to Madhya Pradesh to learn about the best practices adopted by their government in various components of the ‘Smart City’ mission.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai, who are part of the team, have strongly objected, with both announcing not to be part of the ‘junket’.
On Friday, Alemao had said, “I am committed to the people of Goa and will not be part of any such extravaganza in the future too. I appeal to all my colleagues not to be part of such fancy junkets organised with public money.” He had termed the tour as wasteful expenditure.
On Saturday, Sardesai urged State Assembly to ‘strike-off’ his name from the junket.
“Nothing more ridiculous than this junket to study best practices in ‘Good Governance’, when Goa Chief Minister and his Cabinet are hell-bent on following only Shah Jahan’s practices in Goa,” he said. “I refused to be part to such pleasure trips,” the MLA added.
