PANJIM: A day after Mauvin Godinho quit the party and joined BJP, the Congress is in for another rude shock with former minister Manohar (Babu) Azgaonkar set to exit ahead of the 2017 Assembly polls.
Sources close to the SC leader said he would embrace the MGP on Sunday.
When contacted for his comments on the development, Azgaonkar said, “Wait till tomorrow (Sunday). I will hold a press conference and you will come to know everything.”
The development comes as a huge surprise as Azgaonkar actively supported the Rahul Gandhi rally at Fatorda on Friday. He even shut down the Gandhi market to get people for the rally. Earlier he had participated in the Congress padyatra in Pernem constituency.
When contacted, GPCC president Luizinho Faleiro said, “I am still not aware of Babu Azgaonkar’s decision. He very enthusiastically participated in the padyatra and has not conveyed his decision to me.”
