PANJIM: The Agassaim Police has taken into custody a labourer for allegedly sexually assaulting an underage girl, who is now four months pregnant.

Accused identified as Mohd Nafees, was brought to Goa from her home village in Uttar Pradesh following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father.

Sources said that Nafees worked under the victim’s father and lived in a rented room next to the rental premise of the victim.

“The victim girl’s father had brought Nafees and a few others to work for him in his business. Nafees was sent back since there was no much work but during this period the girl fell sick. On being checked by the doctor she was confirmed to be pregnant,” a police official said quoting the complaint copy.

The victim accused the man of allegedly raping her following which a complaint was filed. Nafees was brought from Uttar Pradesh and formally arrested. He is remanded to three days police custody during which all medical formalities will be carried out.

The victim’s family also from Uttar Pradesh will soon be giving a detailed statement to the police.

Sources said the girl is admitted to the hospital for medical care.
