AGONDA: The lack of safety walls on either side of Agonda’s Borim-bridge (boriepul) at Dhavalkhajan has turned the bridge into a danger zone. The new bridge was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant without the protective side walls. The PWD had assured to complete the remaining work within the next six months. However even as two years have passed, the promise remains just on paper.
The new bridge had replaced the old infamous dangling footbridge last year but was inaugurated without the safety walls. Local BJP workers from the area have demanded that the local MLA and Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar pay attention to safety of the people who use the bridge.
The resolutions passed during many previous gram sabhas of Agonda were presented to PWD Canacona, but the authorities concerned always turned a Nelson’s eye to this issue.
The respective bridge at Dhavalkhajan is the only connecting route to the main road at Paarve. There was an old, narrow bridge here which became weak and was rebuilt around two years ago.
With tourism season already underway, the traffic in Canacona is putting major stress on the internal roads including this unsafe Borim Bridge at Agonda.
