PORVORIM: The Agrawal Samaj (Goa) has undertaken various projects for the weaker sections of the society, as a part of its charitable activities.
Addressing media persons at Porvorim, Agrawal Samaj (Goa) President Suresh Agrawal informed that in February they organised eye camps in association with Mukta Opticians in seven villages of Canacona ~ Pollem, Agonda, Cotigao, Shristal, Khola, Poinguinim and Gaondongrim.
“During the camps, 1,542 people were examined and 1,132 people were given spectacles and 150 patients have been identified for cataract operation.” he said.
“Samaj has identified an area Nadki in Cotigao where there is no potable water facility. There are 18 houses in the area and they totally depend on natural resources for water. Further, there is not even a road for two-wheelers to go to this remote place,” he said.
“The State government has started the work of laying electricity cable and once this work is completed, the Samaj has decided to install tanks to supply water to these villagers,” informed Agrawal.
Agrawal said the Samaj has supplied furniture and physiotherapy equipments to Keshav Seva Sadhana Institute at Valpoi for special children. They have also opened a free water supply counter at Margao bus stand, supplied free uniforms to the children of Apna Ghar and installed statue of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia at Azad Bhavan.
“The Samaj is running Rehabilitation Medical Kits support programme at Ponda, in which wheelchairs, medical coats and crutches are provided free of cost.
