PANJIM: The Aguada jail officials seized three alcohol bottles hidden in a large sized bag of whole wheat flour on Monday. It could not be verified as to who was responsible for smuggling the bottles into the jail premises and for whom they were intended for.
The three rum bottles were confiscated, a senior officials informed.
Jail officials have begun an inquiry into this episode which will also probe whether other banned products have also been smuggled in a similar fashion.
Sources said that in the past, drugs were allegedly smuggled in by concealing them in biscuit packets and watermelons or other fruits.
However, there was no confirmation of a police complaints were filed in the matter. “The monthly ration for the prisoners comes during the first week of every month. During this time, the smuggling usually takes place. However, it is not frequent since such attempts have been foiled in the past as well,” said a jail source.
