VASCO: The All India Port and Dock Workers’ Federation (AIPDW) has expressed concern over the diversion of cargo from major ports to private ports due to the higher handling cost and outdated infrastructure available at the major ports.
AIPDWF has also decided to oppose the move to amend the existing labour laws without taking the trade unions into confidence and sideline the unions on labour-related matters. It has also called upon the port and dock workers at all major ports in the country to participate in the agitations being launched by national trade unions against the anti-labour actions of the govt.
The decisions were taken at a federation meeting at the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) on Wednesday.
AIPDWF has alleged that one of the main reasons for diverting cargo to small ports was the non-applicability of the Tariff Authority for Major Ports (TAMP) at private ports.
