PORVORIM: The Aldona Gram Sabha on Sunday constituted various committees as required under the Goa Panchayat Raj Act.
Acting Sarpanch Charudatta Panjikar told the members that the Gram Sabha has been called to constitute the committees only and no other issues will be entertained.
The villagers sought to know from the acting sarpanch whether he has obtained permission from the Director of Panchayats to preside over the Gram Sabha as required under the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, to which Panjikar failed to reply.
The villagers also sought to know why Block Development Office Mapusa did not depute its representative for the Gram Sabha.
“In the absence of the observer, how panchayat can conduct the Gram Sabha,” asked a villager.
Acting Sarpanch Panjikar said the panchayat had informed the BDO about the extraordinary Gram Sabha. Later, the acting sarpanch started the process of constituting the committees.
A villager, Marie, said the committees should be constituted as per the guidelines given in the respective notifications.
Teo D’Sousa stated that no changes, alternations and modifications can be made and the committees should be formed as per the Act.
Later, the Gram Sabha constituted garbage committee, child committee, road and safety management committee, ward development committee, supervisory committee and health committee.
Audrin D’Sousa, Nelson Cruz and Melvyn Fernandes participated in the discussions.
