VASCO: Goans for Dabolim Only (GFDO) has slammed the State government for stripping the portfolios of Environment and Forest from Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha.
On Monday, GFDO Convenor Fr Eremito Rebello levelled allegations against the government and demanded that BJP leaders reply. He stated, “Is the government following the policy of use and dump, because this is not the way to treat the widow of late Matanhy. Has Alina done something wrong? Has she mishandled the portfolio? Has she not protected the environment? Where has she failed for such punishment to be given to her?”
He further questioned whether Alina was a hindrance to the “dear” projects of the government as she had opposed the same.
“Do they want to do whatever they want and pass projects like the golf course, marina and mega project at Quelossim, to which Alina had objected? Does it mean that Alina is a roadblock for their projects? When Matanhy died, the then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had proclaimed that Matanhy’s legacy would be continued. The BJP must have forgotten its stand. By removing Alina from the Environment Ministry, the BJP has shown that Matanhy’s principles were never followed at all,” said Fr Rebello.
Fr Eremito also alleged that the change in portfolio was done only to promote Mopa, marinas and other mega projects.
