PONDA: Former PWD Minister and Marcaim MLA Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar along with around 500 locals on Sunday staged an agitation at Khandepar River to protest Mhadei water diversion by Karnataka.
Dhavlikar along with protestors took out rally in Khandepar and shouted slogan “Amchi Mhadei, Amkam Zai”.
He expressed fear that Goa may soon face water crisis as the BJP-led government at the Centre despite having its governments in Goa and Karnataka failed to solve Mhadei water diversion issue.
Dhavlikar said in the next three years Goa may face water crisis as Karnataka is likely to divert more than 56 per cent of water. Dhavalikar accused the government of being insensitive to the issue of Goans, who may face major water problem in near future if it fails to stop Karnataka’s efforts to divert Mhadei water.
The MLA further said that if the government fails to control Karnataka then it would affect Opa plant badly as in summer especially during high tide, entire saline water would enter the pumping station if Mhadei water is not allowed flow into Goa thus affecting the supply.
Mhadei agitation would continue in rest of the talukas where Mhadei water flows, he warned.
