Amonkar rubbishes charges of favouritism

Goa State Horticulture Corporation (GSHC) Chairman Sankalp Amonkar on Wednesday rubbished allegations against him of patronising select suppliers of vegetables.
Amonkar told Herald that there were four suppliers recognized by the Corporation amongst whom one supplier has been since inception.
He said initially the Corporation had only one supplier but subsequently more were added as the business grew.
“We needed more vegetables so suppliers too started getting attracted towards us,” Amonkar said adding that the fourth supplier was added recently.
The Chairman said recently the Corporation has expanded its business full scale which has resulted in profits for these suppliers.
He said only last month, they received three more applications from suppliers showing interest, but no decision had been taken on these. As and when the business expands more, we will consider them,” he mentioned.
The Chairman said norms for new vegetable suppliers were very stringent. “The supplier has to take up the onus of transporting the vegetables and any damage on the way is not borne by the Corporation,” he explained.
The irate suppliers in Belgaum had claimed that the Corporation was procuring vegetables from only four suppliers of which 75 percent was from a single supplier.
Amonkar has rubbished the claim stating that he has records to prove that there is no partiality in procuring the vegetables.
