PONDA: BJP-supported candidate Anand Zalmi won the by-election to Ward 1 of Curti-Khandepar Panchayat defeating MGP-supported candidate Sapna Naik by 168 votes.
The seat was vacant following the demise of panch Sagun Naik. The election was held on Sunday and 894 votes were polled out of the total 1,099.
Zalmi and Naik, the two candidates in the fray, secured 514 and 346 votes respectively. Interestingly, 20 ballot papers were found blank out of the 34 votes that were rejected during the counting on Monday.
