PERNEM: A chaotic situation was witnessed at the Zonal Agriculture Office (ZAO) Pernem after the farmers who had come to attend the meeting organized by the Agriculture Department had to stand outside the meeting venue, as the hall was overcrowded, with no proper sitting arrangement. The meeting was called to take inputs or suggestions to formulate the new agriculture policy for the state of Goa.
Pernem being an agricultural taluka, hundreds of farmers showed up for the meeting. However assuming that the response received at meetings in other parts of the taluka, the Pernem zonal office had decided to hold the meeting at the zonal office hall which has capacity of 50 to 60 people. As a result, farmers had to stand outside the hall.
The farmers also complained of mismanagement, as the department had also not made any provision of a sound system which could be help the people standing outside the hall to hear what was being discussed. This angered the farmers as a result of which they left the venue and asked the zonal officer to organise another meeting after making required arrangements.
