VALPOI: With no action forthcoming from the government officials despite the boycott of classes by the students of Government High School at Surla, demanding immediate repair of the school building, the angry parents Thursday met the PWD officials at Valpoi and served on them a two-day ultimatum to start the repair work.
The parents have threatened to lead a morcha to the PWD office on Monday, if the repair work is not started by then.
Local Panch Surykant Gaonkar and other villagers also visited the Valpoi PWD office Thursday morning to press for the immediate repair of the Surla school building.
The parents also cornered PWD junior engineer Lad for the department’s negligence of the school. They also alleged that an engineer at the PWD, Valpoi office, was hand in gloves with the contractor, due to which, they claimed, the repair work of the school has not be taken up so far.
Meanwhile, Valpoi MLA Vishwjeet Rane Thursday slammed the government for neglecting the Surla school. He said that immediate completion of the new building is a necessity, as the old one is insufficient to accommodate all the classes. He also called for the immediate repair of the existing building.
“Fifteen days ago, I had a meeting with the contractor and the villagers in my office to sort out the issue relating to the repair of the school and completion of the new building. At the meeting, the contractor assured to complete the new building, but so far nothing has been done. This shows that the government has been negligent towards this school,” Rane said.
“I will not keep quiet if the government continues to neglect the school,” he warned.
