MARGAO: The Dramapur Sirlim panchayat has complained about waste from slaughtered animals chocking the two major water bodies in the village and demanded stringent action against the culprits throwing the waste in the water bodies and also urged the Goa State Pollution Control Board to make it mandatory to explain the waste treatment while applying for licenses.
Sarpanch Bernardo Rebello pointed out that the two rivulets – Jakniband and Digaband – in the village are found with animal waste packed in plastic bags, “Somebody is throwing this waste in the night and action has to be taken against the culprit,” he said.
Replying to a question he said the waste was even of chicken slaughtered probably by the poultry dealers and also pork waste which is dumped in the water body thereby polluting the water body and affecting the environment.
He said the panchayat wrote to the Directorate of Health Services and Food and Drugs Controller about this menace asking them to take whatever action they could.
However, he insisted that the Goa State Pollution Control Board could make it mandatory for people to show how they propose to dispose of the waste when they apply for licenses for slaughtering animals.

Meanwhile, after a long gap of two years the CCTVs are back in action at the panchayat and Bernardo expressed happiness that he could fulfill one of the promises made by him when he took over as sarpanch of the Village on 17th February.
He regretted that the previous MLA sought to make it a prestige issue by claiming that the proper procedure was not followed by the panchayat to install the CCTV cameras knowing very well that they were installed under the Zilla Panchayat funds.
He said the CCTV cameras were installed for providing protection to the documentation in the panchayat ghar.
He hoped that the villagers would elect good and educated people to the panchayat when elections are held shortly and not be swayed by the MLA and his dictates.
