PORVORIM: The ruling group of Anjuna-Caisuva Panchayat on Sunday lashed out at frequent transfers of the panchayat secretary by the Directorate of Panchayat.
Addressing reporters at Mapusa, Anjuna-Caisuva Sarpanch Pratima Govekar stated that during the last 10 months, the Directorate of Panchayat transferred four panchayat secretaries for no fault of theirs.
“The opposition groups are making false allegations against the panchayat secretary and the panchayat, thus compelling the Directorate of Panchayat to transfer the panchayat secretaries frequently,” claimed Govekar.
“This action of the Director of Panchayat hinders the development of the panchayat. The panchayat could not address developmental issues for the last 10 months to the satisfaction of the people due to the frequent transfers of the panchayat secretaries,” stated Govekar.
“The project of acquisition of land to set up garbage treatment is gathering dust because of the non-cooperative attitude of the opposition group,” alleged Govekar.
When asked why the panchayat secretary is not recording the minutes of the fortnightly meetings on the spot as directed by the Block Development Officer, Deputy Sarpanch Savio Almeida said: “Nowhere in the Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1994 it has been mentioned that the minutes of the fortnightly meetings has to be noted on the spot.”
“The panchayat has already written to the Director of Panchayat that due to some administrative difficulties it is not possible for the panchayat secretary to note down the minutes on the spot,” said Almedia.
“The minutes of the fortnightly meetings are made available to the members of the opposition group whenever they request for and if they find any discrepancies in it, the ruling members are ready to get it rectified,” added Almeida.
Panchas Lavino Rebello, Fatima Rebello, Dinesh Patil, Sharad Naik, Sheetal Naik and Naryayan Mayekar were also present for the press conference.
