PANJIM/MAPUSA: What have the Goa Police and district magistrate done so far to crack down on illegal parties in places that were to have been sealed even as North Superintendent of Police (SP) Nidhin Valsan said that the police and the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) will jointly keep a check on loud music played in the beach belts of North Goa, and monitor noise pollution levels.
However, residents of Anjuna-Caisua fear that Tuesday, being the Independence Day holiday, noise pollution levels at clubs and resorts will go higher than the normal decibels and demanded that the authorities should stop those violating noise pollution norms beyond the stipulated time limit of 10 pm.

Speaking to mediapersons at Karaswada, Mapusa, North SP Nidhin Valsan said that a joint inspection was carried out by Goa Police along with GSPCB team following allegations of violations of noise norms in North Goa’s beach belts.
He said that the police will go through the report prepared by the GSPCB.
“There is not much allegation in the report prepared by Goa State Pollution Control Board. We will go through it. We have deployed our police officers to ensure that everything is as per the law,” SP Valsan said, claiming that the situation is under control.
On the other hand, GSPCB Chairman Mahesh Patil told O Heraldo that he has already sent emails to both the Police and the North Goa Collector to keep a watch and monitor whether there is any violation of noise pollution levels in the coastal belt where music is being played.
Patil said, “Our teams have inspected the places which were sealed in
the past and found
them closed.”

The residents from Anjuna-Caisua have been complaining that loud music is played beyond midnight and that the decibel sound is doubled during holidays and festivals affecting them. They have further stated that the authorities concerned were reluctant to act against the resorts playing loud music beyond the stipulated time limit of 10 pm despite numerous complaints to the police stations concerned.
