BICHOLIM: The Anjunem dam in Sattari has almost reached its full capacity and the water is likely to be released in next few days if it rains continuously.
According to the dam officials, the current water level is 90.27 metres and the dam has almost reached its maximum capacity.
“In days to come we may release the water. Once the dam water reaches 91 metres we will discuss with the authorities and will take the decision,” AE (dam), G K Powadi informed.
He said the dam has 93 metres storage capacity but the water is released in small quantities before it reaches its full capacity to avoid any danger.
The authorities should take the decision cautiously as the release of water at times also leads to flood-like situation in Sanquelim. The residents fear that faulty planning could lead to disaster. Some years back, a car got washed away and the commuters were saved after dam water was released.
The authorities said they would first see the situation of tides and accordingly release the water. “We would monitor the situation and release the water only when it is low tide,” Powadi added.
