MARGAO: The Goa police have been left red-faced once again. Three days after notorious thief Michael Fernandes gave Aguada jail authorities the slip, an accused from Yellapur escaped from the custody of escort police from Colva when he was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao, on Thursday morning.
In the instant case, accused Agnelo Sagati, resident of Totalgundi, Yellapur, Karnataka, escaped from the custody of the escort police at around 11 am when he was produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao, in a theft case. ASI Shashikant Krishna Dessai of Colva later lodged a complaint with the Margao police and a case under section 224 of IPC has been registered against the accused.
Police said that Sagati, who was involved in house-breaking incidents, was arrested by Colva police under section 457, 380 read with 511 of IPC. He was later released on bail, but he jumped bail by failing to attend court hearings, prompting the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao, to issue a non-bail warrant against him.
The Colva police arrested the accused at Yallapur and produced him in the court today when he managed to escape from police custody this morning by giving a fist blow on ASI Dessai’s stomach.
Further investigation in the case is being conducted by PSI Girendra Naik under supervision of Margao PI Sudesk Naik and over all supervision of DySP Mohan Naik.
