MARGAO: The COVID scare has caused various stigmas among people with yet another Health Care Worker (HCW) being asked to vacate rented premises on Monday by the locals fearing that he would spread the virus to others.

The doctor from North Goa, working for a private hospital and to be freely available for COVID patients, started living near St Joaquim Chapel at Borda on rental basis.
It was only after the intervention of ex-councillor Glenn Andrade that resolved the issue and the doctor continued to reside there.
Glenn intervened in the matter and explained to the people that he was a doctor attending to patients and that he was not a COVID patient hence they had nothing to worry. After much convincing the people relented.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, a chairman of a Cooperative Housing Society, had issued order asking nurses staying in two flats in the society, to vacate the flats fearing that they would spread the virus to people living in the society and this had led to a major controversy.
Given the fact that there are three private hospitals besides Hospicio in Ward 10 of Margao Municipal Council, a five-member committee headed by Councillor Vitorino Tavares has been constituted to offer any assistance with regards to treating COVID patients.
“This committee will not only help relatives of the patients but even doctors if they face any problem with regards to their living in the ward,” said Glenn.
