PANJIM: Call it co-incidence or otherwise, but just a couple of months ago ~in January this year, another inter-state bus met with a Ratnagiri-like tragedy at the very same spot.
Though the accident miraculously did not claim any lives, the impact was such that the front portion of the bus was smashed and metal splinters pierced the leg of a Russian tourist causing a complex fracture of her ankle.
The case of Ekaterina (name withheld) is a sad story on the apathy of the reckless driving and more so, the trauma she faced during the course of medical treatment.
Russian consulate’s representative in Goa, Vikram Varma said, “It had resulted in a major accident at Khed which is the same place where Tuesday’s accident took place, claiming many lives.”
Metal cutters had to be used to extricate her from the bus and subsequently she was shifted to a Mumbai hospital by a government ambulance.
The victim also complained that she was given false promises by representatives of the bus company that they would bear her medical costs, but later refused to take her calls, according to her advocate .
