Yet another Pangolin was rescued from Salcete’s coastal belt in a space of a fortnight.
This time, the Pangolin was writhing in pain on a tree after it got entangled to a creeper, before a youngster from the locality, John Fernandes rescued the ant eater from a certain death.
“I was called to Gujjir Mam’s place after they heard sounds of cries on the tree. When I went to inquire, I found the Pangolin crying in pain as it’s neck got trapped on the tree”, John recalled.
After rescuing the ant eater, John took it inside the house where many neighbours came to have a glimpse of the Pangolin.
He said that the Forest officials came within minutes to take possession of the Pangolin and the mammal was handed over to the officials after they produced their identity. “Initially, I resisted the move by a man to take away the Pangolin, but the man showed his identity as being a forest official”, he added.
A fortnight ago, a Pangolin was rescued from Orlim on November 1 after it had strayed in the garden of residential house.
Animal lover Julio Quadros informed that the Pangolin will be released at the Bondla sanctuary. “We have taken the ant eater to the Aquem forest office. The same will be released at Bondla on Monday”, he added.
