Another stormy meet at MMC

MARGAO: It was yet another stormy meeting at Margao Municipality on Friday after the civil society was unsatisfied with the meeting.

The MMC councillors have decided to go to the Directorate of Municipal Administration and demand answers on the delay to provide infrastructure for the waste management.
The councillors along with the MMC chairperson showed unanimity on calling the civil society to join them at the strike at DMA.
The MMC tried its best to give a white paper on the garbage issue but couldn’t promise a time frame for any of their works.
While clarifying the present position of MMC over the Garbage collection and segregation in Margao Arthur has stated some of the actions and requirements MMC has taken and noted. “Presently the MMC has 1 self help group for 2 wards, 1 handling 3 wards and 2 SHG’s handling 4 wards” said Arthur. “The MMC has begun segregation at source in 1, 4, 6, 7, 9, and ward 20. For the improvement of the system we need additional infrastructure and have been promised the same by DMA soon” said Chairperson.
The chairperson of MMC is of the opinion that Fomento should make arrangement for the collection of segregated garbage from the city.
The Chairperson Arthur was criticised by the fellow councillor Avinash Shirodkar. “200 houses in my ward haven’t got dustbins and if the council cannot give these basic requirements like these and parking the council must be dissolved”. While replying to Avinash, Arthur took a dig at SGPDA and said “Ask the SGPDA why they are not passing MMC’s multilevel parking project which is a need of Margao”.
Sangeeta Audi of the garbage sub committee was also under fire by Pratima Coutinho allegedly for not taking up meetings on time. Pratima has opined that the covering of the dump one and half month later in monsoon is of no use and it is only going to benefit the contractor.
The meeting which was primarily called for the garbage issue of Margao could not come to any decisive conclusion on Friday.
